Welcome everyone to the start of my blog. I’m excited to bring you an assortment of content that I hope will not only be thought-provoking, challenging and biblical but also entertaining. I’m also excited about working with friends and fellow believers amongst the blogging community.
For those of you who don’t know me I will share a little about myself. I’m James, I’m a 26-year-old graduate from Boyce College in Louisville Kentucky with a degree in Biblical and Theological Studies. I have a passion for the High School students at my church. I enjoy investing my time and energy pointing these young men to Christ so they can become God fearing biblical men who love God and the communities around them.
I was blessed to grow up in a household with parents who loved the Lord. I was born with a disability called Spina-bifida. The Doctors told my parents at a young age that I would never live a normal life and that I would never be able to walk. I had numerous surgeries growing up. If you asked me today how many surgeries I’ve gone through I couldn’t give you an exact number. But through those struggles God has been good and faithful. God began to heal and work through my life. I was able to walk at the same age as young children normally do, but with the aid of braces on my legs and crutches. I was running around the neighborhood playing with my friends till it was time to come home for dinner, just like any other child. My parents even got me involved in basketball. Despite what the doctors said.
In school I was often bullied, so my mother gave up her good job so she could home school me. I then got involved at Church and made amazing new friends. The Lord put a passion in my heart for the ministry and I wanted to do something that incorporated the gifts that the Lord had given me to help lead others to Christ.
From a young age the Lord had also given me the gift and passion for the arts. I loved books and devoured them at any chance I could get. I loved escaping into the worlds of J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. I would create stories and write them down, many of which I still have and use for inspiration. I got involved in school plays and had no problem remembering scripts. I loved drawing and painting. My parents put me in an art class. I enjoyed it till my teacher told me I should quit the class because I was good enough to teach it.
I also loved film. I remember the day clearly when I was first introduced to films such as Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Batman and Indiana Jones. I remember taking my Dad’s giant camera from the 80’s that recorded on giant cassette tapes. I would put on my Dad’s leather jacket and cowboy hat, then line up a bunch of chairs pretending it was a train. Then I would climb across it like Indiana Jones did. I also made numerous Star Wars videos for fun till the camera burnt up and died. Later in high school is when I began screenwriting and jotting down random ideas for novels.
So now that you know a little about me I want to share with you some of the goals I have for this blog.
I’m wanting to create a blog that discusses the arts and culture with a Christian perspective: literature, book reviews, movie reviews, t.v., music and so on. I want to use my thoughts and reviews as a means to show how they relate to biblical truth. Each movie review will also have a section at the bottom that will help parents determine if a movie is okay for their children to watch.
I’m also going to write a series of articles on how Christians can use the arts to bring glory to God and effectively reach our culture without being consumed by it’s sin. Lastly I’m going to do a series of articles on biblical masculinity through the lens of a single male adult.
In conclusion I want to incorporate my love for the arts and use them in a gospel centered way so that we can be the salt and light of the world while making something that is also entertaining. I’ll have one or two posts up a week. So if you enjoy these things feel free to follow my blog and join in on the discussion…Till next time….Stay Classy.
